Welcome to the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) St. Brendan the Navigator Division Mecklenburg Division #2 website. The St. Brendan Division is a non-profit organization the purposes of which, include Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity; to foster and sustain loyalty to country and community; to promote Irish culture; to perpetuate the history and traditions of the Irish people. We are based at St. Mark Catholic Church in Huntersville and draw our membership from St. Mark in Huntersville, Holy Spirit in Denver and St. Therese in Mooresville.

Application Information for the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) Education Award

SUBJECT: $1,000 “Dick Seymour Education Award”

PURPOSE: To provide guidance for those applying and competing for the AOH $1,000 Education Award to be awarded in March 2018

ELIGIBILITY: Open to all students in their senior year who are of Roman Catholic faith, Irish descent and who will be attending an accredited institution of post-secondary education or an approved professional training program. Primarily, students must be graduating from high schools located in the North Mecklenburg area and be a member of either the St. Mark in Huntersville, Holy Spirit in Denver or St. Therese in Mooresville parish.


REQUIRMENTS:

A. COVER PAGE: To identify the applicant’s:

* First and last name
* Complete home address, email address
* Name, address, contact information (telephone & e-mail) of high school
 
* Name of parish

B. ESSAY

* Applicants must address the theme of the essay, “Dare to Dream: What Does it Take To be a Catholic in Today’s World”
  
C. PRIMARY CRITERIA

* Statement of true and original authorship
* Statement verifying Roman Catholic faith and Irish Heritage
* Statement allowing publication of essay
* The original essay will be 500-600 words in length, excluding the cover page
* All essays MUST be in WORD or PDF format
* All essays MUST be sent to Frank Fay at
frankfay58@gmail.com no later than   
  
January 31, 2018

D. LAYOUT

* Font type: Times New Roman
* Font size:  12
* Spacing: Double throughout
* Margins: 1” on all sides

E. JUDGING

* Essays will be judged and scored by a select committee of members of the St. Brendan the Navigator AOH Council
* Identity of committee members will remain anonymous

F. AWARD

* The author of the winning essay will receive $1,000
* The award will be presented at the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner and Dance celebration at St. Mark Catholic Church on Saturday, March 10, 2018
